Late light bathes these Northern Elephant Seal denizens of Piedras Blancas

Late light bathes these Northern Elephant Seal denizens of Piedras Blancas, including mothers and their pups born within the past one-to-three weeks.

Northern Elephant Seals (M. angustirostris) at Piedras Blancas, San Simeon, CA 12 Jan 2012, taken in late light, a few minutes before sunset. At Piedras Blancas light is everything. I shot hundreds of images all day long starting at noon, and the only six keepers (taken at the main south viewing area) were taken in the last 20 minutes before the sun set below the horizon. I saw dozens of new borns, a few births, lots of early attempts at mating, and a few Alpha male bull battles, not all that violent and bloody, in for dominance and defense of harems. The beach was crowded with a mass of elephant seals, a must-see exhibition.

All the keepers in this set of six photos were shot wide open at f/2.8, ISO 400, nothing longer than 1/160th second.

Indian Wild Ass (Khur)

More images from my trip to the Wild Ass Sanctuary in the Little Rann on Kutch on umangdutt.blogspot.com

The Indian wild ass (Equus hemionus khur) also called khur, is a subspecies of the Onager native to Southern Asia. This animal was on the brink of extinction a few years ago, but now their numbers are steadily increasing . . .

The coat is usually sandy, but varies from reddish grey, fawn, to pale chestnut. The animal possesses an erect, dark mane which runs from the back of the head and along the neck. The mane is then followed by a dark brown stripe running along the back, to the root of the tail.
Wild ass graze between dawn and dusk. The animal feeds on grass, leaves and fruits of plant, crop, Prosopis pods, and saline vegetation. It is one of the fastest of Indian animals, with speeds clocked at about 50 km. per hour. Stallions live either solitarily, or in small groups of twos and threes while family herds remain large. Mating season is in rainy season. When a mare comes into heat, she separates from the herd with a stallion who battles against rivals for her possession. After few days, the pair returns to the herd. The mare gives birth to one foal. The male foal weans away by 1-2 years of age, while the female continues to stay with the family herd.

Today was yet another sad day for me .....
I separated my sweetest kittens with me, and was really hard, tears ran down, I was very fond of them.
I really heartbroken, I always think about every day to the sweet Micky, and now the kittens ..... I hope with all my heart that the families get to access the well and will want to give them as much love as I did with them .
Good luck sweet little kittens ....

Buona fortuna piccole dolce gattine ....

a cat on a hot tin roof

Texture: Cat on a hot tin roof by Temari 09! Thanks my dear friend!

This image is a symbol for people here at Flickr. One day you are a friend, the next day you are an anemie. The wors thing is that someone is blocking you!
Than It's done; you can't defend yourself.
You just have to take it. With spreading the bad news about you........

Well my friends and contacts, I am not some people might say about me.
I am just a hard working girl with a lot admin tasks (75 right now). I never made groups private, that did some other people for me!.. And....I will never let any friend down.

Today I lost one of my best friends (at least I thought he was). Some kind a incorrect understanding, a language problem, or just jealousy, I really don't know.
As I said, if someone blocks you: no defence.

This is one of these day's I want to leave this game called "Flickr"
