Oranjello loves rubber bands, but something about them just feels dangerous, so we try to only give them to him while supervised. I lightly placed it around his head to give him a challenge, and he still managed to get it off within the 30 second limit of the video. I suppose this concept might disturb some people and make them mad, but there's simply no way this could have choked him, even if placed around his neck. There was no danger, no harm, and the cat was clearly entertained. When he broke free from the rubber band, he did not run away. He kept playing with it! Ultimately we had to confiscate it.

Lemonjello attempting one of his "takeovers" of Oranjello's spot. He comes up, pretending to lick, but inserting bites in the licks. The trick is to pretend you're licking, so that the other cat doesn't fight back, but then to bite, but then when the other cat fights back, to lick again. This is his way of riding the edge, hoping to annoy Oranjello into leaving without having to actually fight him.
After awhile, the action slows down, so I unleash a loud scream which a) makes it funny, b) makes Lemonjello [the wuss] leave right away, and c) makes Oranjello leave after some consternation.

20110513 - provoking Lemonjello - actually worked, for once (33s) - MVI_3005

Me trying to provoke Lemonjello. We do this every now and then. Carolyn used to insist he enjoyed it, but I insisted he does not. 99% of the time I do this until my arm gets tired (see next video), and he never leaves. Whereas if you just make the computer beep for a few seconds, or play SadTrombone.com, or scream loudly -- he'll run out of the room. So he's clearly capable of leaving when he really wants to. He just doens't usually want to. Except this time. This time he actually clawed me -- something that's maybe happend 10 times ever, despite my provocations.
So in a way, this video is a failure, because the provocation actually worked for once. But in another way, I won, when I almost always lose (becuase my arm gets too tired).

Oranjello explores our couch for the very first time. We kept him in the utility room downstairs for the first few days, because going from a tiny cage to a 2500 sq ft house can be too much stimulus for a little kitten.
