Love Bird
Description:
A lovebird (genus Agapornis: from the Greek Agape, for love, and Ornis, for Bird) is a very social and affectionate parrot.
The name Lovebird stems from these birds' bright, caring personalities. For this reason, many people feel strongly that lovebirds in captivity should be kept in pairs. Others believe that lovebirds, like other parrots, are social animals who can bond with human companions when given care and ample attention.
Most lovebirds are blue, green, or lutino although color mutations can feature many different colors. Some lovebird species, like Fischer's, black cheeked, and the yellow collared lovebird, have a white ring around the eye. Lifespan is said to be 10 to 15 years.
Diet:
Recommended foods include a pellet based diet along with fruits, vegetables and grains.
Size:
Lovebirds are about 13-17 cm in size, 40-60 grams in weight and characterized by a small, stocky build and a short, blunt tail. This puts them among the smallest parrots in the world although their beak is rather large for their overall size.
Scientific classification
Kingdom: Animalia
Phylum: Chordata
Class: Aves
Order: Psittaciformes
Family: Psittacidae
Subfamily: Psittacinae
Tribe: Psittaculini
Genus: Agapornis

This is a three shot "Long Exposure" HDR and there was very little light inside, but no foot traffic and my tripod with me made it possible. Far from perfect, but was good fun.
The road at the end angled slightly up is still covered with snow. Plus, this tunnel is shared by nature walkers in the day and animals during the night.
I hope everyone is having a great Friday today and looking forward to the weekend.
(Aussie's & NZ are already having a great weekend, right? lol)

"SHINING CAT"
The Red Panda is also known as the "shining cat."
It is a small, arboreal animal found in the Eastern Himalayas and SW China. It feeds mainly on bamboo, and also on eggs, insects and small mammals.
Taxonomists have had difficulty classifying this little arboreal character. Its closest relatives - based on DNA analysis - are skunks, raccoons, otters, weasels and badgers. It is distantly related to the giant panda.

Giant anteater born at National Zoo
The Smithsonian’s National Zoo is pleased to announce the birth of a giant anteater born yesterday, March 12, in an indoor enclosure. This is only the second giant anteater to be born in the history of the Zoo.
National Zoo animal care staff and veterinarians have been closely monitoring mother Maripi (ma-RIP-ee) for the past six months, performing weekly ultrasounds and other diagnostics. Staff expected Maripi to give birth in mid to late March based on the typical gestation period of giant anteaters, National Zoo staff has yet to determine the baby’s gender or weight—and may not for some time.
Maripi is showing excellent maternal instinct in caring for her baby and is very patient as the baby nurses and negotiates various techniques of climbing onto mother’s back. Staff will make every effort to not disturb the animals, allowing time for mother and baby to bond.

Nilgiri Langur
Trachypithecus johnii
Normally found in southern India. Lives in a troop of 5 to 16. Eats leaves, shoots and fruits.
In the 'Endangered' list. Threatened due to habitat loss and heavy poaching. Legend has it that its flesh and fur have aphrodiasic properties. As with the tiger, this belief is killing this beautiful animal..
Please make sure monitor adjusted properly for color and brightness. Otherwise the features of the Langur won't show.
This happens to be most interesting Flickr picture tagged Langur.

Upon the Fringe
A young male polar bear stands on the cusp of the sea ice overlooking the sea. Not sure as to where the water will take him, he can only stand there and wonder what horizon he should head for. Observing and bringing myself down to eye level with the world's largest land predator was mind-blowing. We hear so much on how the Arctic, their home, is vanishing, and to see it happening, puts it in a much more real perspective. The wildlife that calls the hostile north of the Arctic their home, are all remarkable creatures.

"Look, up in the sky. It's a bird. It's a plane..."
“To even mention all the things the bird must constantly keep in mind in order to fly securely through the air would take a considerable part of the evening... The bird has learned this art of equilibrium, and learned it so thoroughly that its skill is not apparent to our sight. We only learn to appreciate it when we try to imitate it.”
– Wilbur Wright

Image by Robbert van der Steeg
This picture is another part taken of a bigger picture with zebra's and wildebeast. My previous zebra picture was another part of this picture. I cant integrate it since there is a wildebeast in between. And these animals never walk nicely in a square ;-).
Apart from the 800,000 wildebeast migrating in the Maasai Mara, there are 200,000 zebras migrating as well.

Didn't take me long to ID this guy... He looked like a big woodpecker of some sort, and I found him on USGS in that catagory. This is the coolest looking bird that has ever entered my yard. Too bad he flew away before I could get some good shots. Out of the few I got, this was the best one.

Streepjescode
