This is part of our library reading train. The windows look into classrooms. We have an artist on staff named Melissa Pooré and she made each and every 3 dimensional animal on the train.

The Daily Shoot assignment today was:
Striped patterns have a natural pattern that catches the eye. Find some stripes today and make a photo.
dailyshoot.com/assignments/109

I had planned on using my iPhone to shoot a picture of each part of the train and then use the app AutoStitch and make a panorama. I was in a hurry and the pics were taken by hand so the panorama didn't come out very well.
You can see it here farm3.static.flickr.com/2747/4407690742_da15401b71_b.jpg

All of the parts of the train are also uploaded in my photostream.

Panda

Check out these animal behavior images:

Panda
animal behavior
The species is a favorite of the public, at least in part because many people find that it has a baby-like cuteness. Also, it is usually depicted reclining peacefully eating bamboo, as opposed to hunting, which adds to its image of innocence. Though the Giant Panda is often assumed to be docile, it has been known to attack humans, presumably out of irritation rather than predatory behavior.

Most efficien hunter out there. Humans projecting their own values onto animals, often judge this animal because of their sneaky behaviour.

Unknown Company's "Break Out of the Norm" Aggressive Urban Blight Campaign

A few nice animals for free images I found:

Unknown Company's "Break Out of the Norm" Aggressive Urban Blight Campaign

URBAN APATHY: A Gift from our friends at Clear Channel Outdoor, Northwest Trek and [i forget which design firm]--A sad stretch of Sprague in Tacoma Washington.

One of these signs is 'distressed' on purpose. ironically making it blend in instead of break out of any norm.

ps. I hate billboards.

- - - EMAIL TO CAPTIVEYAK FROM PRESIDENT OF BAN BILLBOARD BLIGHT - - -

Thanks for sending this. I’ve been following the Tacoma situation with some interest since coming across an article a few years ago about Clear Channel’s Constitutions Matter signs.

But whether or not people think digital billboards are bad, or that the swap is a good deal, everyone ought to be concerned about the apparently subversion of public process. Since you seem familiar with what’s going on here in L.A., you probably know that the same thing happened here in 2006, when the city council approved—without any public debate—a lawsuit settlement with Clear Channel and CBS Outdoor that would have allowed them to convert 840 billboards to digital. A smaller billboard company then sued the city, and last fall a judge overturned the settlement. It’s now in the Appeals Court, but most legal observers believe that the judgment will be upheld, because there’s repeated legal precedent that cities have to follow established procedures—notification, hearings, etc.—before making these kind of decisions.

While there are differences in land use law from state to state, I suspect the same general principles may apply in Washington, and there may be a legal case for challenging the settlement on the grounds that it didn’t go through the proper public process. Unfortunately, fighting these big, litigious deep-pocketed companies in court is a daunting task.

You also may be interested to know that there’s been a drawn-out battle over digital billboards in Durham, N.C., and the city council there just voted unanimously not to allow them. I suppose that a billboard company lawsuit will be the next chapter of that story. What’s actually happening, court-wise, is that that the billboard industry keeps putting forth the argument that any limitations on billboards are unconstitutional. While various courts, including the Supreme Court, have rejected this argument and allowed restrictions, all the way up to total bans, the industry is obviously hoping that if they keep suing they may eventually get a sympathetic hearing and a ruling that commercial speech and individual speech are both fully protected.

Best,

Dennis

In Tengwar.

Tengwar Annatar Italic
Tengwar Parmaite

If you want to request something, please send me a message, don't ask in the comments as I'll most likely miss it then.
And if possible, tell me the font you'd prefer to have, otherwise you'll get my standard fonts, Tengwar Annatar Italic and Tengwar Parmaite.

Please be aware that Tengwar is just a script, not a language. If you want actual Elven words, ask for a Quenya (High-Elven) or Sindarin (Grey-Elven) translation (including Tengwar).

Btw, I expect a minimum of politeness from requesters. You know, say "hi" and maybe even "please" because you want me to help you and all that.... and it's free, so being polite shouldn't be too much to ask.

For all those that would like to give something in return for my free service:
I am in no desparate need of money, so if you'd like to repay this in a way, how about donating whatever you can spare to a charity of your choice (e.g. a homeless shelter or animal rescue in your area)? That way your gratitude goes to someone who really needs it.

NOTE: If you would rather not have your request published for everyone to see (and use), please say so, and I'll do an upload for friends only (and add you as a friend, of course, so you can see it). Such images will be deleted (and stored offline) after a while, so make sure to save it on your computer then.

PLEASE don't scratch our new 50 TV, Beavis!

See the square wooden piece of furniture on the right? at a yardsale many years ago. Hey, it just happens to be wide enough to fit our TV on. Looks like we have avoided buying furniture once again. We've still only bought 2 pieces of furniture in our life: a 0 Sauder entertainment center, and a computer desk. Everything else in our house is sub-. Even the leather couches valued at 00 (Free!).

Happy Tails: Maggie May

Every day we thank our Maggie May for adopting us! We came into Lollypop Farm to find a gray and white kitten or a Siamese baby and this six-month-old black and white cat made it clear that we were not to leave without taking her home. She’s a smart cat and was not going to let us go down the row without giving her a try. She was only six months old but we were the third home for her.

We had neighbors with dogs come over and meet her the first day. Neighbors with kids came over too. She loves the kids and is fine with dogs. You listed her as “Lola” but we decided to change her name. She STOLE our HEARTS, so on the way home we decided her new name would be Maggie May… after the Rod Stewart song.

Almost every day I tell her THANKS for choosing us. She came home with us on April 13, 2010. A couple weeks later I was at the Joseph A. Bank clothing store in Pittsford and talking cats to the manager and he and his wife were fostering a Siamese 1 pound 2 ounce kitten. Two days later “Joe Banks” joined Maggie May and she was happy for the company. Joe Banks is now twice her size but she is still the boss.

Thanks again! This is probably the smartest cat we have had in our many years of cats around the world. You could say Maggie May adopted us. She really did pick us and I do thank her almost every day.
