A few nice endangered animal images I found:
Pink-tailed worm lizard

These really do look like worms - they are scarcely thicker than an earthworm - and they really do have pink tails. This one was also quite torpid on a cold day, and made no effort to escape.
The species is listed as "vulnerable" but not "endangered" (see here). This was the first one I have seen, though they are apparently not that uncommon locally - just idly turned over a small rock while waiting for the sunset, and there is was.
