Bad News Bears

A very disturbing sight at the Nongseum Restaurant on the northern outskirts of Vientiane: two bears penned in a halfway submerged cage, apparently for the amusement of restaurant patrons. The animals have been here for approximately two months.

This restaurant is not owned by a Lao-American, unlike I previously believed. On Monday I will contact the Wildlife Conservation Society in Vientiane. I hope there is something they can do to put a stop to this kind of animal cruelty.

I will also see if I can get this publicized in the local press. I will most certainly refuse to patronize this establishment as long as it continues to engage in these kinds of despicable practices.

Matt Tracy wait for a report from the explosive ordnance disposal team regarding a suspicious device found near their operations base during an Army North external evaluation of the Wisconsin National Guard's 54th Civil Support Team on Thursday, March 25. The evaluation is required every 18 months for unit certification. In the exercise scenario, a winter concert by rock groups promoting animal cruelty was sabotaged with chemical, biological and radiological materials by an animal rights group. Femke den Haas was born in Yaoende, Cameroon and has loved animals since a very young age. She stopped eating meat when she was 8 because she thought that eating animals was wrong. At the age of 17, she came to Indonesia to help with the release of 70 orangutans in Borneo. She is the co-founder of Jakarta Animal Aid Network (JAAN) and tries her best to stop the illegal wildlife trade and animal cruelty.
