We're in South Africa, in the Madikwe Game Reserve. To our right, across
the fence, is Botswana. "People don't like driving along the fence," says
our guide, "but it's the best place to find wild dogs. They chase the
animals into the [electric] fence to stun them." On the other side is
farmland, with cows, protected by their own electric fence. The lions and
other predators can look across, but they can't eat.
